Whether teaching fifth graders about aquatic invasive species along Lake Erie, supporting graduate students as they sample the waters of New York Bight, or training a cadre of undergraduate river stewards as they engage anglers along the Salmon River, New York Sea Grant values the formal and informal education of the next generation.

Our Sea Grant Scholar program prepares the next generation of coastal science professionals and decision-makers by supporting graduate students who are engaged in funded research projects.

New York Sea Grant’s Marine and Great Lakes educators work with K-12 classroom teachers and partner with nature centers, museums and aquaria to deliver science-based information to students and the general public in order to create the informed citizenry needed for wise coastal resource decision-making.

We believe that through such education efforts, coastal resource development and protection will be supported by a new generation of motivated, highly educated scientists and environmentally aware stewards.
