New York Sea Grant is a long-time partner of the Long Island Sound Partnership — a National Estuary Program led by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to restore and protect Long Island Sound and its watershed.
Long Island Sound sustains diverse wildlife, supports fishing and recreation industries, and anchors vibrant coastal communities. New York Sea Grant has eight dedicated extension staff who work collaboratively to provide regional and targeted support across the Long Island Sound watershed. The staff include two outreach coordinators and six regionally-based extension professionals who work directly with the Partnership, engaging local stakeholders, advancing community-driven stewardship, supporting sustainable and resilience-focused project implementation, and applying the best available science to address emerging challenges.
Through research, outreach, and hands-on support for coastal resilience, habitat restoration, and water-quality initiatives, New York Sea Grant helps ensure that Long Island Sound remains healthy, accessible, and thriving for generations to come.
